CISF Coastal Cyclothon crosses 3,300 km, grand event in Mumbai

MUMBAI, Mar 20: The CISF Coastal Cyclothon 2025, a first-of-its-kind initiative covering 6,553 km of India's coastline, is set to reach Mumbai on March 20, 2025, which marks its half-way distance of about 3300 kms (both coasts-combined). This historic ride is raising awareness amongst the local population about the importance of coastal security and appealing to the fisherman communities to actively support the law enforcement agencies in keeping a vigil over potential threats like smuggling of drugs, weapons and explosives through the sea.
The CISF personnel are conducting public interaction events to foster better coordination between local communities and security agencies, creating a more robust security network. The events have witnessed enthusiastic participation from various fishing communities, including the Kharwa and Koli fisherman communities on the western coast, and the Kaibartas, Nolia, Jalaripeta, Thota Veedi, and Eguvapeta fisherman communities on the eastern coast. These interactions provided a platform for these communities to share their coastal life experiences and unique aspects of their livelihood.
The vital role they play as the nation's first line of defense along the coastal boundaries was emphasized, recognizing them as "Tat Praharis" or coastal sentinels. Various cultural events have also been organized, showcasing the unique culture and diversity of our coastal communities. Youth, mainly school children, have participated in large numbers, even cycling for short distances alongside the cyclists to demonstrate their support for the cause. Milestones Achieved So Far o Total Distance Covered: 3,306 km o Mass Public Engagement: Over 10 lakh+ people physically participated in rallies, events and awareness campaigns. Over 40 lakh+ people have been engaged over the online platforms. o Registered Cyclists: 1,000+ participants have joined the movement o Cultural & Awareness Events Held: 26 major events, along with 118 local interactions enroute. o Support of Eminent personalities: Notable sports personalities- Neeraj Chopra, Manu Bhaker, Baichung Bhutia, Suresh Raina, Javagal Srinath, etc; Film stars - Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Anil Kumar, Manoj Bajpai, Milind Soman, etc; Personalities of eminence who graced various events in-person include- Odisha Dy. CM Smt. Pravati Parida, Padma Shri Sand Artist Sudarsan Pattnaik, Arjuna Awardee Pramod Bhagat, Odisha Minister Shri Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Shri Raja Shivendra Narayan Bhanjadeo (King of Kanika) amongst others have extended their support to the event. Having started from Lakhpat in Gujarat and Bhakkali in West Bengal, the cyclists have already covered 3,306 km (West Coast: 1,921 km, East Coast: 1,385 km), engaging with diverse communities, security forces, ex-servicemen, fishermen, and environmentalists along the way. Mumbai now marks a major milestone before the riders continue towards their final destination- Kanyakumari. Mumbai Welcomes the Riders: Join the Movement! On 20.03.25, Mumbai, the heart of Maharashtra, is all set to celebrate this historic rally at the Gateway of India with a grand welcome, community interactions, and cultural performances. The event will highlight the dedication of the riders and reinforce the importance of coastal security and sustainability. Adding to the excitement, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar, Bollywood icons Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Boman Irani and Suniel Shetty and are also cheering for the CISF Coastal Cyclothon and lending their support to this inspiring journey.
