| Farooq, Omar bartered the autonomy resolution says Karra | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Apr16- Ridiculing the recent statement of the National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah that if elected his party’s MPs would raise the issue of autonomy in the Parliament, senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Tariq Hameed Karra today asked Dr Abdullah that how many times he and his son Omar Abdullah raised the autonomy issue during their term as MP’s for the last five years. “I don’t think Dr Abdullah or Omar Abdullah have uttered a single word about autonomy in the Parliament during the last five years,” Karra said at a PDP workers convention in Batamalloo today. “And how the father son duo bartered the autonomy resolution, passed by the State legislature, with the then BJP-led NDA Government for power is now an open secret,” he said and added that once a premier political party, NC is today starving for candidates to contest the Parliament polls in Srinagar. “It is an irony that Dr Abdullah has to now compete with the budding Salman Sagar for getting a mandate to the prestigious Srinagar Parliamentary constituency,” he said. Karra said Dr Abdullah as a member of the Rajya Sabha between 2003 and 2008 couldn’t do justice with the Member Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund, what the people of the State could expect from him on the political front. “Let Dr Abdullah make public how much of the MPLAD funds he has spent for the development of Srinagar,” he asked. He said NC has exploited the voters of Srinagar only to build their personal empires and has done nothing tangible for the development of this historic city. Karra said PDP has piloted the genuine concerns of the State and the aspirations of its people with conviction and unlike National Conference, the leadership of PDP never kept itself available to Delhi for anti-State machinations for the lust of power. He said even today the people are yearning for revival of the golden era of governance that the State had witnessed under the stewardship of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed between 2002 and 2005. Karra said the people are craving for the relief and respite they had experienced, both on the security and development fronts, between 2002 and 2005. He said the conviction exhibited by the PDP leadership on the crucial issues concerning the State has shown that it is the only party to realize the dream of peace, dignity and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Senior vice-President of PDP and the party’s candidate for Srinagar-Budgam Parliamentary Constituency Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari also addressed the convention.
