| J&K to host all 15 One Dayers of Ranji Trophy | | JKCA announces non stop cricket action from August 2006 to March 2007. | | Early Times Reporter Jammu July 12 Its been a real cricketing bonanza for the cricket lovers of J&K State in the coming cricket season as Jammu And Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) announced the conduct of important cricket matches. Mehboob Iqbal Chairman JKCA while briefing the media persons said, " After a pretty long gap of 18 years there is something to cheer for the cricket lovers of the state as there was no real cricket action in the state for the last 5-6 years owing to non conduct of major cricket tournament in the state. Our (JKCA) top most priority is to promote the game in the state by organizing more and more cricket tournament of national levels for the benefit of our young and budding cricketers. In this context, we have constituted a North Zonal Fixture Committee whose meeting is scheduled to be held on July 18 at Srinagar which would decide about the number of cricket matches to be played in Jammu as well as in the valley." However, for the first time in the history of J&K, all the 15 one dayers of of the Prestigious Ranji Trophy tournament will be played in J&K. Expressing his happiness while announcing the conduct of matches in the state Mehboob said, " It is indeed a matter of great pride for the state to host all the matches of the prestigious trophy which in turn would do a world of good not only from state point of view but also for the players to have interaction with the star players from other states who also are representing national team as well." Raising concern over the dismal performance of the state cricket team he said "As far as the performance of the state team is concerned we are almost at the bottom. There are so many reasons for this but now we are serious about it as we are very keen to promote cricket in the state at grass root levels. For this, we have decided to introduce talent search committee which would explore the potential cricketers in every district of the state. Our main stress is on U/15 and U/17 age groups in which 25-30 players would be selected who underwent rigorous training through former test cricketers of the country in order to polish their cricketing skills to become competitive cricketers. But unavailability of independent cricket ground is the biggest hurdle in our way. But now we have identified 2-3 sites in Jammu for constructing cricket stadium to break deadlock over the issue as BCCI has already gave us the assurance about the financial assistance to construct cricket stadium. But the final decision would have to be taken by the association" said Mehboob Iqbal. Others who were present on the occasion were Sham Swaroop Kalsotra Vice Chairman Suneet Sharma Joint Secretary JKCA, Tilak Singh Joint Treasurer JKCA and other former cricketers of the state.
