| Gali Pindi voters boycott polls to protest against govt in Jammu and Kashmir | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 16 : Voters of 72-Gali Pindi polling station in Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir today 'boycotted' the Lok Sabha election to register their protest against the state government.
None of the 656 electors, including 322 female, turned up to exercise their franchise at 72-Gali Pindi polling station in Mandi tehsil of border district of Poonch, official sources said.
When contacted, Poonch District Commissioner Mohammad Afzal Bhat confirmed reports of ‘’poll boycott’’ by the Gali Pindi voters.
''People in the area (Gali Pindi) were reportedly unhappy with the government, which is said to be the reason of their protest,'' Mr Bhat said.
Although discontentment among people is said to be the reason of ''poll boycott'', yet the external influence on the Gali Pindi voters for boycotting the Lok Sabha elections was not ruled out.
In J&K state, election to the Jammu Lok Sabha seat was in progress in 20 Assembly segments spread over four border districts of Samba, Jammu, Rajouri and Poonch.
