GDC RS Pura holds awareness Talk on Legal Implications of Ragging

RS PURA, Mar 25: Anti-Ragging Committee in collaboration with NSS Unit of Government Degree College R. S Pura has organized a thought-provoking talk on the Legal Implications of Ragging, emphasizing the critical role of legal awareness in preventing ragging incidents in educational institutions. The event witnessed the participation of students, faculty members, and legal expert. Dr. Chanchal Angral introduced the guest speaker for the session in her welcome address, S. Deep Daler Singh Kulzem, a renowned legal expert and advocate specializing in educational law.
She emphasized that the initiative forms part of the college's broader commitment to student welfare and safety, with the institution continuously striving to raise awareness and promote a positive academic atmosphere.
The talk covered a broad range of topics related to the legal aspects of anti-ragging, including the legal consequences faced by perpetrators, the rights of students, and the responsibilities of educational institutions in ensuring a ragging-free environment. During the session, Mr. Singh highlighted the landmark legal provisions such as the Anti-Ragging Act and the guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to prevent ragging.
The expert also discussed the serious legal consequences of ragging, which can include criminal charges, suspension, expulsion, and even imprisonment, reinforcing the importance of adhering to the anti-ragging regulations in educational institutions. The talk also stressed the importance of creating an inclusive and respectful campus environment and encouraged students to come forward with complaints if they ever faced any form of ragging. The guest speaker further emphasized that strict legal actions could help deter such behavior, and that everyone had a role to play in ensuring a safe academic environment for all.
In her remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Preetpal Kour, Principal of the College, expressed her gratitude to the guest speaker and reinforced the college commitment to maintaining a ragging-free campus. She also encouraged students to stay informed and make use of the college anti-ragging cell to report any untoward incidents. The whole event was coordinated by Dr. Chanchal Angral, Convener Anti-Ragging Committee and NSS PO and the members of both the committees' viz. Dr. Hari Singh, Prof. Harpreet Kour, Prof. Rajinder Singh, Dr. Sanjeev Upadhyay, Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, Dr. Akrity Parihar and Dr. Savleen Kour. Prof. Harpreet Kour hosted the whole event and exchanged her ideas via poem and instances from real life narratives. The event concluded with the formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Sunil Kumar Mangoch, HOD Dogri.
