GDC Samba organized Awareness Session on Intergenerational Bonding

SAMBA, Mar 26: The IQAC cell of SPPND GDC Samba and National Institute of Social Defence, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Govt. of India in collaboration with Anugraha RRTC organized an enlightening one day awareness and sensitization program on Intergenerational bonding in colleges. The event, held under the patronage of esteemed Principal of the college Prof. (Dr.) Twinkle Suri, aimed at fostering stronger relationships between younger and older generations, promoting mutual understanding, respect and knowledge sharing. In her address, she emphasized the importance of intergenerational bonding in today's fast paced world where digitalization often distances us. She exhorted the need to nurture a generation which is morally upright and socially conscious. The young, fresh, energetic and dreamy minds coinciding with the experience, wisdom, moral values of elderly people will foster empathy and enrich our cultural values, upholding emotional well being.
The first insightful lecture was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Seema Sharma, Head, Department of Education. She highlighted the need of intergenerational bonding as this AI based younger generation is lagging in terms of respecting, communicating and bonding with the morally upright generation. The second resource person, Assoc. Prof. Meenakshi Thakur, H.O.D. Sociology gave her valuable inputs about various levels of intergenerational bonding. She emphasized that tradition and modernity should go hand in hand as they compliment each other. Further, Ms. Swati Basotra; eminent motivational speaker, trainer and entrepreneur; motivated the students to build emotional bonding with the elderly at their homes. Deepali Arora, renowned Lawyer and Social Activist discussed various sections of the legislation governing and protecting Senior Citizens rights. She also awared students about Swabhiman Parisar- an Ageing and elderly care unit The event began with a formal welcome address by Dr. Banpreet Kour, Coordinator IQAC and formal vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Ramandeep Kour, H.O.D. Home Science. The session reinforced, among students, the critical need to enable our elders to live with dignity as our cultural heritage is a testament to our respect and value for our senior citizens.
