KDP Wing of DPAP Demands Correction of Records on Ex-Gratia Compensation
3/26/2025 10:18:12 PM
Early Tims Report

JAMMU, Mar 26: The Kashmiri Displaced People (KDP) Wing of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) has expressed strong dismay over discrepancies in official records regarding ex-gratia compensation for fire-damaged migrant houses.
In a joint statement, KDP leaders, including President Sanjay Dhar, Chairman Piaray Lal Pandita, and General Secretary Raj Kumar Ticku, criticized the reply to Starred A.Q. No. 784, raised by MLA M.Y. Tarigami. They alleged that the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction (DMRRR) misrepresented facts, stating that ex-gratia payments were made as per sanctioned assessments. However, they pointed out that the assessed value of gutted houses was much higher, and while the Centre had transferred funds for full compensation between 1996-98, the then-State Government only disbursed Rs. 1 lakh per structure, deferring the remaining amount for a later date. The leaders accused DMRRR of withholding recorded facts and misleading the legislature, suspecting a conspiracy against the displaced community. They criticized the authorities for repeatedly demanding documents from registered migrant families, despite their existence in official records for over 35 years. The KDP leaders urged DMRRR to review the official records, clarify the actual sanctioned and released amounts, and ensure transparency regarding funds received from the Centre.
