KHUSHWANT S RANIAL
Time is the greatest healer .It heals the wounds with the passage of the time but the imprinted scars left over on the mind keeps on reminding one of the woeful tales and trauma one who has borne it throughout the life .Almost 25 years have passed yet the reminiscences of Anti Sikhs Riots of 1984, erupted after the assassination of the then Prime minister late Mrs. Indira Gandhi, in which around 3500 Sikhs were butchered mercilessly in Delhi and in the other parts of the country still haunts and shakes one’s feelings beyond imagination. In fact, the striking target was pre planned in Delhi because with the demolition of holy Golden Temple, Amritsar in Operation Bluestar in June 1984 by the Indian armed forces to flush out the hidden militants had already enriched the morale of the insane elements and the perpetrators of the law to attack on the community very much but they were only in the search of an opportunity to hold it by the forelock and unfortunate for the helpless innocent citizens ,the assassination of the great Indian leader through her own two Sikhs body guards afforded those an opportunity to cash the moment to spread the reign of terror and they did it at the instance of a well hatched conspiracy .Anarchy prevailed to watch and see the unforgettable incidents leaving a blot on the fair name of Indian democracy and fabric of secularism. Every passing moment was adding to the pages of history for ever .There was dearth of the Government machinery to control and place a check on the lawlessness. At one point of time it looked as if there is no concrete approach to deal sternly with those who were hell bent to create the havoc through their nefarious designs. The riots were truly a key part of the subsequent Punjab insurgency and till date they remains a standing shame on the fair name of Indian cosmopolitan character of which we feel and take pride in very often.
Undoubtedly ,to afford consolation to the victimized families and the Sikh community in large ,commissions have been set to collect the evidences to bring the culprit to book by the successive regimes over the last 25 years but most horrible bitter truth to swallow is that Indian judicial system have failed to provide justice to the victims by bringing the culprits to book .They are still at large either due to the close political affiliation with the different parties or themselves sitting in the corridors of power thus making mockery of the criminal jurisprudence system of India. All this forces one to carry this notion that in India, minorities communities have no leg to stand upon and it is fruitless to rely upon for seeking the justice .The prevailing jurisprudence structure here exhibits Taliban code of conduct with the apparent difference that it is flexible in nature for the majorities while for the Talibans in Afghanistan, it is orthodox in nature for the minorities. How much painful it would be for those who are alive and yet seeing the duo of Jagdish Tytler and Sajan Kumar ,the two main conspirators behind the inciting of the communal violence in 1984 aftermath the assassination of Indira Gandhi roaming freely without an iota of fear or repentance for their committed deeds and sins .It would be worthy to mention over here that even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had dropped Tytler from his cabinet in August 2005 after learning that Justice Nanavati commission have found him involved in flaring up the crisis beyond control.
It will be not improper to state that present leadership irrespective of any party affiliation is a class of eunuchs because till date they could not arrive at the consensus to hang the main conspirator of the Parliament house attack namely Afzal Guru who has been awarded death sentence by the Hon’ble court. What else one should pin a hope from them? Such a lackadaisical attitude attributes clearly that leaders are indifferent to the feelings of the masses .Their sole aim is to settle their own scores regardless of the interests of the poorer citizens of the society. The Sikh media man namely Jarnail Singh who lobbed shoe at the union home minister P C Chidambaram another day during a press meet in Delhi to lodge his protest on failing to get response satisfactorily pertaining his query related to the CBI clean chit to Tytler was a spontaneous act and not a pre planned act to cause hurt with any inimical intention but it for a moment revived all those awesome scenes of those gory incidents and sufferings and pains of those who have fallen victims .It manifests that such a reaction bore the sympathies for the community and the religion in any soft corner of mind and heart of the Jarnail Singh.Otherwise bubble would never have burst. The way Sikhs responded to Jarnail Singh’s reaction confirms that despite Congress Party having sought apology outnumbered times for what had happened in 1984 , are still in no mood to let off the culprits until they are brought to book under the statute of Indian Penal Code.
If the Congress Party think tank thinks that by projecting Sikhs like Manmohan Singh as the Prime minister or Ex.Gen[retd.]J J Singh as the chief of the army and now as the governor and Montek Singh Ahulwalia as the deputy chairman of the planning commission or other Sikhs dignitaries in the corridors of power by virtue of their favor ,then they are strongly mistaken .Whosoever and wherever one is placed is placed by the dint of his own hard work and labour , intellect and vision. So if one may presume that by placing them an honorable place to put the storm at bay will not serve the purpose .Guilty needs be punished and should be held accountable at all costs otherwise excessive latitude will infer that majority in strength have no care for the minorities and only hoax calls are repeatedly made in the name of secularism and pluralistic egalitarian Indian society devoid of the morality. Hence it is utmost desired that in future please do not add more salt to the existing injuries by applying the delayed tactics because the justice delayed is equivalent to justice denied for ever.
