| Udhampur losing historical heritage, courtesy Govt. apathy | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Udhampur Apr 17- The apathetic attitude of government and the archaeological department towards the historical monuments and temples in Udhampur district is ruining these invaluable structures. Several NGOs, historian, writers have already raised the issue of protection of these monuments before the administration but nothing tangible has come out so far. According to information gathered some of these temples and forts like Ramnagar Forts, Kirmichi Temples and Temples at Baboor were taken up for maintenance by the state archaeological department and Archeological Survey of India. Despite that the Kirmichi Pandav temples present picture as a result of which these precious monuments fail to attract the visitors. Talking to media historian Prof Shiv Kumar Nirmohi said that the famous and rich heritage sites were still out of the sight of visitors. He alleged that no work has been done by archeological department to explore the historical hidden treasure of Udhampur. He said recently he had discovered 12th century Nag temple at Bilur 7 kms away from Majalta which is miracle of nag architect. He said that in Kova village of Chenani area several inscriptions and tridents written in Brahmi script have also been discovered. Social worker Sarita Devi of Indian Democratic Organization an NGO said that government has failed to explore the historical heritage of Udhampur district.
