| Khoda for increased surveillance for peaceful polls; chairs meeting at SKPA | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr17- The Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda today visited district headquarters at Kathua, Udhampur and Reasi districts to review security arrangements for smooth conduct of Parliamentary Elections in Udhampur Constituency going to polls on April 23 in the second phase of five-phased Parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir. IGP, Jammu Zone,. K. Rajendra, DIG, Reasi-Udhampur Range, Gulzar Singh Salathia and SSPs of all the respective districts also accompanied the DGP. The DGP also chaired high-level Coordination Committee meetings of the senior officers of police and para-military forces at these district headquarters and took detailed review of the security arrangements made in the entire constituency for the conduct of elections in a free, fair and transparent manner. During the deliberations, senior officers of police and security agencies briefed the DGP about the arrangements for smooth conduct of peaceful elections in the entire Udhampur Parliamentary constituency. Reviewing the security situation, the DGP asked the security agencies to provide adequate security at the various polling stations so that people could exercise their democratic right of franchise without any fear and coercion. He asked them to keep close vigil on the anti-national and anti-social elements. The DGP stressed for maintaining law and order at all the sensitive and hyper-sensitive polling stations besides, ensuring the security cover for the polling staff and voters on the polling day. He also called for close and effective coordination between all security agencies and civil administration. Later in the evening, the DGP also chaired meeting of senior police officers at Sher-i-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), Udhampur, in which various administrative matters of Academy were discussed and decisions were taken on-the-spot. The meeting laid emphasis on completion of syllabus of various professional training courses presently going on in the Academy in a time bound manner. Addressing the meeting, Khoda asked the Academy management that special professional courses should be organized for making the trainees acquainted with latest skills of policing. He said for the purpose, services of national level professionals from National Police Academy (NPA) and other reputed institutions from all over the country should be utilized by arranging special lectures for the trainees. The meeting also discussed the ongoing construction works in the Academy campus and Khoda gave on-the-spot instructions to the executing agencies to complete these within stipulated time and ensure use of quality material in constructions. Earlier, Director SKPA, Mr. Naveen Aggarwal, briefed the DGP and other senior officers about various professional training programs presently going on in the Academy. He also threw light on the future training programs for the academic year 2009-2010. Among others, the meeting was attended by the IGP Headquarters P. L. Gupta, IGP (Personnel) Ram Lubaya, DIG (Administration) PHQ, M. Suliman Salaria, AIG (Personnel) Javaid Riyaz, AIG (Provision), Ali Mohammad, SP (Spl. Asstt. to DGP) Javaid Farooqi, Administrative Officer PHQ B. A. Shah, Executive Engineer (PCD),. Farooq Ahmed, Executive Engineer, PHC, K. S. Samyal and other police officers.
