| Racket at work inside parking lot at Railway Station | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 17- Hundreds of passengers and local residents who daily park their vehicles inside parking lot of Railway station premises have been taken for a ride by the organized racket mushrooming in blatant connivance of senior railway authorities without any check. For last couple of days, motor vehicle owners have been forced to pay Rs. 20 per car and Rs 10 for a two wheeler without duly informing the commuters. In the absence of any fresh notification or a circular issued by the concerned authorities the contractor who is responsible for running the parking lot is charging hefty sum of Rs 20 for a four wheeler and RS 10 for a two wheeler. Ironically, if some local resident, who visit railway station to see off his/her relative or to receive some guest, refuse to pay the hiked amount the local contractors and his caretakers misbehave with them and use abusive language forcing them to shell out the desired amount. A similar episode was reported on Friday when few passengers refused to pay the exorbitant fee and brought the issue into the notice of the Station Manager Ashwani Kumar. Instead of giving them a patient hearing he also abused the passengers and local residents creating a big scene on the railway platform. He even threatened them of dire consequences while refusing to acknowledge the fact that owners of parking lot were duping daily visitors and charging exorbitant parking fee. Outside the parking lot when daily passengers who park their vehicle approached the office of taxi operators union where parking lot contractor was present they failed to produce any such circular and had a piece of paper to show without any official stamp or signature of any authority. Justifying the hike of parking fee one of the parking lot caretakers said, it is the railway authorities who have fixed the parking lot fee and they have not hiked it on their own. If this was the case even the station manager failed to produce the circular despite frequent requests. Large number of local residents argued against unwanted hike of parking fee and lodged a strong protest with the railway authorities to reconsider the decision of hiking the parking fee.
