Tony urges Amit Shah to announce date for restoration of Statehood to J&K
4/7/2025 10:39:15 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 7: Senior Congress leader and DDC Suchetgarh, Taranjit Singh Tony today appealed to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to spell out a clear timeline for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, saying the people have waited long enough and deserve a definitive answer.
Speaking in the backdrop of Amit Shah's ongoing three-day visit to the Union Territory, the senior Congress leader said that merely holding elections without restoring statehood is a futile and wasteful exercise. "This is nothing but another jumla to mislead the people. The BJP had made a solemn promise that statehood would be restored after elections, and even the Supreme Court had directed the Centre to restore statehood within a time-bound framework after conducting the elections in J&K. The delay is an outright betrayal," Tony stated.
Tony warned that continued delays will erode the credibility of BJP's leadership and its promises. "People of Jammu and Kashmir are politically mature. They understand that promises made during election campaigns must be honoured. Otherwise, they will stop believing in BJP's slogans, which are increasingly seen as nothing more than hollow rhetoric to attract votes," he added.
He further said that the BJP government must honour its commitment and not take the sentiments of the people for granted. "The restoration of statehood is not just a political demand; it's a matter of identity, dignity, and constitutional assurance to the people of J&K."
Tony also raised serious concerns over the recent surge in terror activities, especially in the Jammu region. He urged the Home Minister to deploy competent and experienced police officials in sensitive areas to counter the rising militancy. "It's high time that the security apparatus is strengthened in Jammu to neutralize threats and protect the lives of innocent civilians," he said.
He said that if the BJP fails to act decisively now, it will lose the trust of the people not just in J&K but across the country.
