DEO asks sectoral magistrates to adhere to ECI guidelines

Reasi, Apr 18- The District Election Officer (DEO), Reasi, Sanjeev Verma convened a meeting of zonal and sectoral magistrates and apprised them of their duties and responsibilities as laid down by the Election Commission of India on the poll day on April 23, here today.
Stating that zonal and sectoral magistrates had played a commendable role during the Assembly elections 2008, the DEO asked them to strictly adhere to the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. He informed them that every zonal and sectoral magistrate will get the communication as well as transport plan of their respective areas. He said that spare Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be placed with them, adding that they have to reach their respective areas one day before the polling day along with other polling staff.
Verma directed them to intimate the arrival of polling staff to their respective polling stations and also inform about the polling stations for which the political parties have not appointed any polling agent. He said that it is the responsibility of zonal and sectoral magistrates to conduct mock poll before the start of polling in presence of polling agents so that the elections are held in a fair and transparent manner.
The DEO asked the zonal and sectoral magistrates to keep a close eye on the situation around the polling stations and if any incident occurs, immediately inform about it to the security forces.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Reasi, who was also present in the meeting, issued necessary instructions to the police officers deployed on election duty with the zonal and sectoral magistrates during the Parliamentary elections. He said that all security arrangements have already been made at the 363 polling stations of the three Assembly segments of Gulabgarh, Reasi and Gool-Arnas in Reasi district. The zonal and sectoral magistrates were also provided security, transport and communication plan of their respective areas on the occasion.
Among others, AROs of all the Assembly segments, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, senior police and civil officers were also present on the occasion.
