Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 10: Over 36 years since their forced displacement, the Kashmiri Pandit (KP) community continues to live in exile under difficult conditions. In a joint press statement issued today, prominent social activists M.K. Yogi and Vinod Pandita appealed to the Union Home Minister and the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir to take immediate humanitarian steps to resolve the pressing issues faced by the displaced KP community.
M.K. Yogi emphasized the urgent need for a time-bound rehabilitation plan for the return of KPs to the Valley with honour and dignity. He also called for an enhancement of the monthly relief assistance from the current ?13,000 to ?25,000, citing the growing cost of living and hardships faced by camp dwellers.
Yogi further highlighted the concerns of PM Package employees, demanding a permanent transfer policy, timely promotions, permanent absorption, and adequate accommodation for those working under challenging conditions in the Valley.
Vinod Pandita, echoing these concerns, called for a special employment package for educated KP youth to address rising unemployment. He also urged the government to release pending compensation for damaged and gutted KP properties and demanded the construction of more residential quarters for displaced families living in rented accommodations in Jammu.
Pandita further stressed the importance of restarting the migrant grievance portal and sought the implementation of the Migrant Immovable Property Act of 1997 in letter and spirit. He insisted that the custodian department be made solely accountable for the protection and retrieval of encroached KP properties.
The KP leaders reiterated that the community's issues are not just administrative, but humanitarian, and appealed for urgent intervention to ensure justice, security, and a dignified return home.
