| Recruit VDC members as SPOs: JKNPP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr18- Urging state government to solve the problems being faced by the Village Defense Committees (VDCs) in militant affected areas, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) said that they would sit on one day hunger strike on April 21 out side the Raj Bhawan seeking the recruitment of VDC members as Special Police Officers (SPOs). Addressing media persons, here today, senior party leader and MLA Udhampur Balwant Singh Mankotia demanded that those VDC members who have completed five years service should be recruited as Special Police Officers (SPOs) in the Jammu and Kashmir police. He alleged that VDC members have been living a miserable life since they are being paid very less. He said that previously VDC members were given Rs 1100 per month as salaries and now they are getting Rs 300 per month. Alleging discrimination with them, he appealed the government to enhance their salaries since VDC members have been deprived of their basic needs due to very less wages. He said that VDC members of Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi besides other areas, are leading a miserable life. He said that government should look solve their problems immediately other wise NPP would be forced to come on roads in favour of the above said demands.
