Early Times Report

Nagrota, Apr 12: A special lecture and demonstration on Disaster Awareness were conducted by A Coy Ex 13 Battalion NDRF for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of 4 J&K bn NCC Jammu, who are currently undergoing their Annual Training Camp at the NCC Training Academy (NTA), Nagrota. The session focused on equipping the young cadets with the knowledge and skills necessary to respond effectively during natural and man-made disasters.
The lecture covered various types of disasters, including earthquakes, floods, landslides, and fire accidents, emphasizing the importance of early warning systems, community awareness, and preparedness. A significant part of the session focused on first response techniques and basic first aid, where cadets were taught the ABCs of first aid—Airway, Breathing, and Circulation—and how to manage injuries like bleeding, fractures, burns, and unconsciousness.
Practical demonstrations by the NDRF team provided hands-on experience in rescue and relief operations. The highlight of the lecture was the discussion on the Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative, which encourages youth participation in disaster management. Maj Uttam, the Company Commander from A Coy Ex 13 Bn NDRF, emphasized that cadets, with their discipline and training, can play a key role in spreading awareness, assisting in evacuations, and supporting civil authorities during emergencies.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A session, followed by a vote of thanks. Col Kuldeep Kachru, the Camp Commandant at NTA, praised the efforts of 13 Bn NDRF and encouraged cadets to actively contribute to disaster resilience as responsible citizens and future leaders. This initiative aims to build a trained, aware, and responsive youth force capable of facing emergencies with courage and competence.
