12-Week Proficiency Course in Fingerprint Science for J&K Police held

JAMMU, Apr 15: The "12-Week Proficiency Course in Fingerprint Science" for J&K Police commenced at the Conference Hall, DPL Jammu, in collaboration with the Central Fingerprint Bureau, National Crime Records Bureau. The course aims to familiarize participants with fingerprint knowledge and the National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), a real-time and comprehensive fingerprint identification system that assists law enforcement agencies. ADGP Headquarters/Coordination PHQ, Shri M.K Sinha was the chief guest at the inaugural section.
Speaking on the occasion, the ADGP Headquarters stressed the importance of active participation and dedication to the course, highlighting that applying the gained knowledge would contribute significantly to achieving organizational objectives. He added that once the participants are trained proficiently, they would be capable to handle fingerprint-related work.
Shri Sinha emphasized the need for participants to engage fully with the course and utilize the knowledge acquired to support the organization's goals. He underlined that the successful completion of the training would equip the participants to act as a force multiplier in fingerprint analysis, addressing the current shortage of experts in J&K.
Dr. Sunil Gupta, IGP, Crime, J&K gave a brief overview of trainees and the course overview was presented by Dr. Sudha, Director, CFPB. Shri Manoj Kumar Pandith presented vote of thanks.
A total of 40 officers, comprising 3 Inspectors, 6 Sub-Inspectors, 8 Head Constables, 22 Constables, and 1 lady official, have been selected for this pioneering course organized by J&K Police. The course will be conducted in two parts.10 weeks course will be held at Jammu, covering topics such as Biological basis of fingerprints, History of fingerprints, Pioneers in fingerprint science, Fingerprint collection and analysis, Classification and identification of fingerprints
The 2nd part of the course will be held at Delhi Fingerprint Bureau and Central Fingerprint Bureau, focusing on practical aspects of managing crime scenes, locating and processing chance prints, and identifying criminals
Mrs. Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG-Trgs, PHQ, J&K also attended the function.
