Maligaon, Apr 16: Shri K. Raveen Kumar Reddy, Additional Member (Traffic) Railway Board, visited Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and held a comprehensive review meeting with senior railway officers. During the session, Shri Reddy closely reviewed the operating indices, achievements of the zone, and the strategic projections for the financial year 2025–26.
The review meeting covered key performance parameters such as freight loading, punctuality, safety, and revenue generation. Shri Reddy appreciated the consistent growth demonstrated by NFR, particularly in the freight sector and urged the team to continue focusing on innovative approaches and infrastructure improvements to meet the evolving needs of the logistics sector. In his review of freight performance, Shri Reddy noted a significant rise in commodity movement during March 2025. Compared to the same period last year, NFR recorded marked growth in multiple categories like Cement loading increased by 9.6%, Dolomite by 9.1%, Fertilizer by 28.6% and 'Others' category by 9.6%. Additionally, there was a notable surge in specific sectors, with Potato loading rising by 54.5%, Stone Chips by 61.9%, and Miscellaneous goods by 7.4%. Cumulatively, as of March 2025, NFR achieved a freight loading volume of 10.681 million tonnes for FY 2024 – 25 registering a 4.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year. This impressive growth has played a vital role in boosting both the regional economy and the overall revenue of Indian Railways.
As part of his itinerary, Shri Reddy also visited the Azara railway station goods shed. There, he held a meeting with local traders and freight stakeholders. The interaction provided a platform for open dialogue, allowing traders to share feedback and offer suggestions on improving freight services and last-mile connectivity. Shri Reddy reassured the participants of NFR’s firm commitment to enhancing freight infrastructure and ensuring seamless, efficient service delivery.
Looking ahead, NFR remains focused on leveraging modern technology and enhancing operational processes to ensure sustained progress in freight transportation, improve service reliability and continue its contribution to the economic development of the Northeast.
