| 228 sorties being deployed in Udhampur-Doda to airlift poll material | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 19- In view of increasing militancy in Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha constituency going to polls in the second phase on April 23, around 228 sorties have been arranged to airlift polling staff and election material to far-flung and snow-bound areas. According to the Jammu and Kashmir election department, around 228 sorties of MI-17 and Chetak helicopters of the Indian Air Force (IAF) have been planned to airlift security persons, machines and polling staff to 158 of the 1989 polling stations. "As many as 1425 security men and polling staff along with electronic voting machines (EVMs) and other material will be airlifted to 158 polling stations on April 21 and brought back after voting on April 24 in Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur and Kathua districts," election department officials said. There are polling stations located at high altitudes between 6000 feet to 10000 feet and need the help of sorties besides snow-bound areas in Kishtwar, Bani, Doda, Billawar areas. As many as 13, 54,499 voters will exercise their right of franchise in the polls
