| Gupta for stepping up security along LoC, IB | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 19- Emphasizing the need for stepping up the security, both along the LOC and IB and also internally, the former Union Minister and leader of the BJP Legislators Party, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has assailed those who are demanding withdrawal of special powers of the Army and curtailment of the troops engaged in fighting cross border terror in Jammu and Kashmir. He said the developments in Pakistan, especially the rise of Taliban, are a matter of serious concern and require due attention. In a statement today, Prof. Gupta said that there are definite reports of amassing of the trained ultras close to the Line of Control as also the borders in Jammu areas but it was strange that certain leaders of the National Conference and other friends of the Congress woo the religious fundamentalism who are out to discourage the forces fighting a proxy war launched from the neighborhood. “By making such controversial demands these elements are rather operating as facilitators to the evil designs of the enemy”, he alleged and expressed surprise that while the dangers of religious bigotry, the Congress-NC collaborators are attempting even to weaken the internal security network raised over the years in Doda district as also elsewhere by having large number of Village Defence Committees. In this regard the BJP leader pointed out that SPOs attached with the VDCs were not being paid even the meager emoluments regularly and the promises of giving preference to the members of the VDCs in the recruitment in various armed forces including the police are being over looked. Ridiculing the claims of the Congress leaders that they have enough will to fight the militancy and cross border terror, Prof Gupta pointed out that thousands of cases were registered under various substantive laws against the ultras as also the Hawals operators but there was not a single case in which any of the ultra or their facilitator has been awarded exemplary punishment. On the contrary large number of men of the forces have been booked and even punished on charges of violation of Human Rights, he added. He termed the statement of former Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah for raising accusing fingers against L K Advani and others of the BJP as “somersault” to appease his estranged and renewed friends in the Congress on the eve of Lok Sabha polls. Why he did not made such like revelations earlier and why he and his party remained with the NDA till they were in power at the Centre, he questioned and said that people are well judge that who had played what role during all these years especially in wake of the outbreak of militancy, and who had fled away abroad when lakhs of families were getting uprooted from their places to become refugees within their own country.
