Dr Vikas Sharma of SKUAST-J conferred SIDAVES Fellow Award 2025

JAMMU, Apr 20: Dr. Vikas Sharma, a distinguished Professor in the Division of Biochemistry, Faculty of Basic Sciences at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), has been conferred with the prestigious SIDAVES Fellow Award 2025 by the Society for Integrated Development of Agriculture, Veterinary and Ecological Sciences (SIDAVES).
This recognition was awarded in appreciation of Dr. Sharma's significant contributions to research and academics in the field of Biochemistry. The award was presented by Padma Shri Dr. Vijaipal Singh, a renowned plant breeder of India, during the 3rd Annual Convention and National Symposium on "Next Generation Agriculture, Horticulture and Livestock Farming (NGA-25)", held at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture & Technology (SVPUAT), Modipuram, Meerut.
SIDAVES is a nationally recognized scientific organization committed to holistic socio-economic growth through excellence in science, ecological development, and education, guided by its philosophy of "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam Parma Sukham" - the whole world is one family.
During the symposium, Dr. Vikas Sharma also delivered a lead lecture via PowerPoint presentation, focusing on the use of minor fruits from the Kandi belt of Jammu region in the management of cancer. He emphasized the urgent need for the development of less toxic, more effective, and low side-effect drugs for cancer treatment.
Dr. Sharma, a resident of Channi Himmat, Jammu, has an impressive academic record. He has guided 10 Ph.D. and 7 M.Sc. students as Major Advisor and has authored 80 full-length research papers published in national and international journals of repute. His work, particularly in the bioprospection of medicinal plants, has earned him several prestigious awards from various government organizations.
This latest recognition adds another feather to the cap of Dr. Vikas Sharma and highlights the growing academic and research excellence of SKUAST-Jammu on the national stage.
