Srinagar, Apr 19: The Opposition PDP on Saturday day lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against the ruling National Conference for allegedly violating the model code of conduct (MCC) by misusing official machinery during electioneering in the state.
"I am enclosing herewith a picture of a state police vehicle decorated with flags of the ruling National Conference. The picture is self-explanatory on how official machinery is being brazenly misused by the ruling party's candidate," Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti said in a communication to the Chief Election Commissioner.
A copy of the letter released to the press here said the picture was taken during an election rally of the NC candidate for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency at village Parigam in Pulwama district on April 15.
"I would expect appropriate legal action against the ruling NC by the Election Commission on the issue of misuse of official machinery for electioneering in the state," Mehbooba said.
This is the second time in less than four days that the PDP has appealed to the EC. On April 15, the party appealed to the poll panel to initiate action against Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for his reported statement that EVMs have already been programmed in favour of a particular party
