GDC Vijaypur marks Earth Day with cleanliness drive

VIJAYPUR, Apr 21: Marking World Earth Day 2025 with great fervor, Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur organized a spirited Cleanliness Drive under the banner of this year's global theme "Our Power, Our Planet." The event, spearheaded by the college's Eco Club (Green Warriors) and NSS Unit (Khidmat), emphasized environmental stewardship, sustainable living, and active community participation.
The drive saw enthusiastic involvement from students, faculty, and volunteers who rolled up their sleeves to clean key areas across the college campus, including gardens, pathways, and communal spaces. Participants collected and responsibly disposed of waste, reinforcing the message of hygiene, proper waste management, and ecological responsibility.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ashu Vashisht, Principal of GDC Vijaypur, highlighted the impact of united efforts in preserving nature. "World Earth Day serves as a crucial reminder of our responsibility towards Mother Earth, and the enthusiastic participation in today's Cleanliness Drive showcases the power we hold-as individuals and as a community-to make a tangible difference in creating a sustainable planet," she remarked.
The event also featured an engaging awareness session, educating students on the harmful effects of plastic pollution, the importance of waste segregation at the source, and the adoption of sustainable practices in everyday life. Volunteers promoted the 3Rs-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle-as essential steps toward mitigating environmental degradation.
The success of this initiative reflects GDC Vijaypur's unwavering commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious citizens and building a greener, healthier future. The event was seamlessly coordinated by Prof. Ritu Bhagat (NSS Coordinator), Dr. Arti Sharma (Eco Club Convener), and co-coordinated by Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal. Faculty members who actively motivated and guided students included Prof. Anita Jamwal, Prof. Mamta Gupta, Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat, Dr. Manoj Heer, Prof. Meetu Sharma, Prof. Sonia Devi, and Dr. Noreen Jaral.
As the college community united under the message "Our Power, Our Planet," the event stood as a shining example of grassroots environmental action and inspired others to join in the collective journey toward sustainability.
