Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 21: In a remarkable achievement that underscores India's growing presence in global medical academia, Dr. Rashid Anjum, Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopedics at AIIMS Jammu, represented India as a Young Ambassador at the prestigious Asia Pacific Orthopedic Association (APOA) 2025 Congress, held in Cairns, Australia.
Dr. Anjum was among only 15 distinguished young orthopedic surgeons selected from across the Asia-Pacific region for this coveted program, which aims to cultivate leadership, academic excellence, and international collaboration in the field of orthopedics.
As part of the APOA Young Ambassador Program, Dr. Anjum participated in a rigorous academic itinerary involving clinical observations, knowledge-sharing sessions, and interactive discussions with senior orthopedic faculty and fellow ambassadors. He visited leading medical institutions in Cairns, gaining exposure to global best practices in surgical planning, patient care protocols, and hospital training systems.
At the Congress, Dr. Anjum delivered two widely appreciated podium presentations:
"Orthopedics in India: Challenges, Innovations, and the Road Ahead" - highlighting the rapid technological integration in Indian orthopedic care.
"Leadership in Orthopedics" - emphasizing the importance of mentorship and the emerging role of young professionals in global healthcare leadership.
Both talks received commendation from senior APOA faculty for their insight, depth, and relevance.
Dr. Anjum was also honored with a Certificate of Honor at the Congress Banquet, recognizing his impactful representation of India and AIIMS Jammu on an international platform.
Speaking about his experience, Dr. Anjum said,
"It was a rare privilege to represent India and AIIMS Jammu at such a prestigious forum. The Congress offered valuable academic insights and a broader understanding of global healthcare systems. I return more motivated than ever to contribute to orthopedic advancement in India."
The APOA 2025 Congress drew delegates from over 30 countries, with expert panels in trauma, spine surgery, arthroplasty, pediatric orthopedics, and sports injuries. The Young Ambassador Program remains a key initiative for grooming the next generation of orthopedic leaders in the Asia-Pacific region.
Dr. Amit Thakur, Additional Professor & Head, Department of Orthopedics, AIIMS Jammu, said,
"We take immense pride in Dr. Anjum's international recognition. His selection and successful participation reflect our department's emphasis on global academic engagement and professional development."
Prof. (Dr.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO of AIIMS Jammu, also congratulated Dr. Anjum, stating,
"This is a proud moment for the entire institute. Dr. Anjum's achievement reaffirms our commitment to nurturing globally competent healthcare professionals and advancing India's standing in global healthcare."
