Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 24: As part of the nationwide Poshan Pakhwada initiative, the NSS Units of Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu, in collaboration with ICCASH and SPARSH under the aegis of IQAC, organized a comprehensive and inspiring program aimed at promoting nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices among students.
Held as part of the ongoing NSS camp, the event kicked off with an assembly and the soulful singing of the NSS song by volunteers, setting the tone for a day dedicated to health and well-being. One of the major highlights was the screening of a powerful documentary underscoring the importance of a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. The film served as an effective educational tool, sparking reflection and dialogue among the students.
Adding an interactive twist to the campaign, a Healthy Food Competition was organized, offering students a creative platform to demonstrate their culinary skills and knowledge of nutritious recipes. Judged by Dr. Chetna Gupta and Dr. Roomi Rani, the competition saw enthusiastic participation. Tanish Kumar claimed the first prize, while the second prize was shared by Pranav Verma and Vashu Choudhary. Rasneet Kour and Palvi shared the third prize, impressing judges with both taste and health quotient.
Addressing the gathering, Principal Prof. (Dr.) Rajinder Singh highlighted the direct link between good nutrition, academic performance, and personal development. Applauding the initiative, he remarked, "Healthy eating and healthy living are the cornerstone of a successful lifestyle, and events like these instill valuable habits among students."
To further enhance awareness, an informative video lecture by renowned cardiologist Dr. Sushil Sharma was also screened. Dr. Sharma provided expert insights into how dietary choices and lifestyle habits are intrinsically tied to cardiovascular health.
In a motivational segment, a video featuring the healthy lifestyle practices of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi was shown, illustrating how wellness routines can be effectively integrated into even the busiest schedules.
The event also included a cleanliness drive within the college campus, emphasizing the holistic nature of health, encompassing personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness.
The program was skillfully coordinated by Dr. Deepshikha Sharma and Dr. Deepak Pathania (NSS Programme Officers), Dr. Reena Rani (Convener, ICCASH), Prof. Rekha Gupta, Dr. Neeru Devi Anand, Dr. Madhu, and Dr. Rajni from SPARSH. Several esteemed faculty members including Dr. Mohd. Azam, Prof. Ashraf Nawaz, Prof. Shaji Khan, Dr. Chetna Gupta, and Dr. Sunal Sharma were present to support the initiative.
The successful event underscored the college's commitment to cultivating a culture of wellness and awareness among youth, reinforcing that a healthy mind begins with a healthy body.
