YHAI to strengthen bonds of fraternity: Shafi Pandit

JAMMU, APRIL 20 - National President, Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI), Mohammad Shafi Pandit today convened a meeting of the State Council of YHAI, J&K branch.
While addressing the participants, Pandit said youth hostelling aims at strengthening the bonds of fraternity by bridging differences that exist in human society. The aim of various programmes organized by YHAI is to promote concepts of good citizenship and sensitize participants towards environmental and social issues, as well as bring in better understanding of culture, ecology and biodiversity bestowed on the State. He said YHAI will focus on boosting tourism for which special initiatives will be taken.
While elaborating on the programmes initiated during centenary celebrations of International Youth Hostels Federation and 60th anniversary of YHAI, the National President said the triennial International Conference of the Youth Hostels Federation at Cairo in May 2008 was significant in bringing in major changes in youth hostelling. He dwelt at length about the activities of the association planned for 2009-10 which include cleanliness drive of Dal and Surinsar lakes and Jhelum and Tawi rivers, 100 mountain bicycle expedition from Manali to Leh; 100 motorcycle expeditions, National Heritage trek from Pancheri Forests to Mantalai, family camping in Udhampur and Kathua Hills in Jammu and Srinagar, Gulmarg and Pahalgam, study of flora and fauna and exploring nature across the State.
Earlier, Chairman, YHAI, J&K branchm S. P. Verma informed that the family camping programme for 100 Gujarati families in Srinagar and for 100 families from Orissa and West Bengal at Patnitop is being planned. He further said that 50 orphans from J&K shall be sent to Mumbai on a study-cum-cultural exchange tour during this year.
On the occasion, P. V. Rawal, former treasurer, YHAI, was honored for his services to the organization.
Among others, present in the meeting included Director, Health Jammu, Director, Floriculture, Commissioner, JMC, Additional District Commissioner, Jammu and Principal, GMC, Jammu. Additional District Commissioner, Jammu was also present on the occasion.
