JAMMU, Apr 28: In a dynamic effort to combat the rising menace of drug abuse and alcoholism, a powerful street play (Nukkad Natak) was staged today at the New Plot area of Jammu. The initiative, spearheaded by Navdeepti Counselling Centre in collaboration with the Diocese of Jammu-Srinagar, drew an enthusiastic crowd and delivered a strong social message on the dangers of substance abuse.
The street play, presented by the acclaimed Prena Kala Manch team from Varanasi, captivated the audience with its emotional storytelling and impactful performances. Through relatable narratives, the play vividly portrayed the devastating consequences of drug and alcohol addiction, urging youth and community members to lead healthy, substance-free lives.
Prominent social activist Sunil Dimple, President of Mission Statehood, addressed the public gathering held alongside the performance. In his impassioned speech, he appealed to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, the Hon'ble Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, and former Chief Minister Shri Omar Abdullah to implement stringent measures against drug peddling. Dimple called for a complete ban on liquor sales and advocated for capital punishment or life imprisonment for those involved in the drug trade, demanding urgent legislative action to dismantle the networks destroying the youth's future.
Fr. Ronney, Director of Navdeepti Counselling Centre, emphasized the importance of adopting a drug-free lifestyle and outlined strategies for preventing substance abuse. Mr. Ashu Peter Mattoo, President of the All J&K Christian Sabha, praised the Jammu and Kashmir Police for their relentless efforts against drug trafficking and urged the community to actively support law enforcement agencies in this vital mission.
