Scrapping Indus Water Treaty Game-Changer for India: Rohiin Chandan
4/28/2025 9:55:53 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 28: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rohin Chandan has lauded "India's Strategic Masterstroke: Scrapping Indus Water Treaty Hailed as Game-Changer". He emphasized that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's decisive action to cancel the Indus Water Treaty (IWT) with Pakistan, describing it as a monumental step for India's national interest and the welfare of its citizens. The treaty, signed in 1960, has long governed the sharing of the Indus River system's waters between the two nations. Chandan emphasized that this move will significantly benefit India, particularly the region of Jammu and Kashmir, while curbing Pakistan's alleged misuse of the agreement. In a powerful statement, Rohiin Chandan highlighted that the cancellation of the IWT addresses long-standing concerns about Pakistan's exploitation of the treaty to fuel instability. "Pakistan created chaos through this treaty, using water as a tool to support terrorism and incite unrest," Chandan said. "By providing water to areas fostering terrorism, Pakistan undermined peace and security. Prime Minister Modi's bold decision to end this agreement is a "game-changer" for India's sovereignty and development." Chandan's remarks echo the sentiments of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who, during his Mann Ki Baat address on April 27, 2025, vowed that the perpetrators would face the "harshest punishment" and that justice would be served.
He added that the cancellation of the IWT is expected to empower India to harness the full potential of the Indus River system for irrigation, hydropower, and economic growth, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir. This strategic move is poised to bolster agricultural productivity and energy security, driving progress in the region and beyond. Chandan underscored that the decision aligns with the government's commitment to prioritizing national interests and ensuring equitable resource distribution for its people. Rohiin Chandan praised the Modi government for its unwavering resolve to protect India's rights and counter external threats. "This is a historic step that corrects a decades-old imbalance," Chandan stated. "The Indus Water Treaty is no longer a shackle on India's progress. Our farmers, industries, and citizens will reap the benefits of this visionary decision."
