| Parliamentary Elections 2009 | | 1,308 election rallies held across State, 517 alone in Udhampur LS constituency | | Early Times Report JAMMU,APRIL 21– Intense election campaigning has been witnessed across Jammu and Kashmir since the announcement of poll schedule for the five-phased Lok Sabha elections in the State on March 2. Since then, 1,308 election rallies have been held by various political parties and candidates across the State, including 940 large and medium rallies. Of these, 707 rallies were held in Jammu Division and 233 in Kashmir Division. The campaigning for Udhampur Lok Sabha seat, which came to an end today, was high profile with top national and state-level leaders of various political parties addressing the elections rallies. They included Chief Minister Mr. Omar Abdullah, AICC General Secretary Mr. Rahul Gandhi and former Chief Ministers, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad. In Udhampur Parliamentary constituency, for which polling is being held on April 23 in the second phase of elections in the State, as many as 517 election rallies have been organised by various political parties and contesting candidates, all over 17 Assembly segments in Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Reasi, Udhampur and Kathua districts. Of the total rallies held in the State so far, Congress organised 366, PDP 264, NC 263, BJP 208, NPP 104, BSP 46, independents 18, PDF and SWP six each, ANC 5, People’s National Front 4, Lok Janshakti Party and Kranti Dal three each, CPI(M), NCP, JSM, LUTF two each, AIFB, Bhartiya Bahujan Party, Backward Classes Democratic Party and JK Awami Party one each. In Jammu Division, where voting for Jammu Lok Sabha seat took place on April 16 and for Udhampur, will be held on April 23, as many as 903 election rallies have been held so far. These include 341 by Congress, 202 by BJP, 103 by NPP, 98 by PDP, 96 by NC, 44 by BSP, 4 by SWP, 3 each by Lok Janshakti, Kranti Dal and independents, two by JSM and one each by PDF, AIFB, Bhartiya Bahujan Party and Backward Classes Democratic Party. As far as Kashmir Division is concerned, of the total 405 election rallies, NC organised 167, PDP 166, Congress 25, independents 15, BJP six, PDF and ANC five each, people’s National Front four, CPI(M), BSP, NCP, SWP, LUTF two each and NPP and JK Awami Party one each. Of the 517 rallies held across Udhampur Parliamentary constituency, 187 were by Congress, 126 by BJP, 103 NPP, 44 by PDP, 27 by NC, 21 by BSP, four by SWP, two by Lok Jan Shakti Party and on each by Bhartiya Bahujan Party, Backward Classes Democratic Party and independent. As far as district-wise break up of rallies held so far in Udhampur Parliamentary constituency is concerned, 162 rallies were held in Kathua, 118 in Udhampur, 105 in Doda, 53 in Reasi, 48 in Ramban and 31 in Kishtwar district.
On the last day of campaigning in Udhampur Parliamentary constituency, as many as nine big rallies and road shows were organized by various political parties and contesting candidates. Besides, one rally was organized in Bhaderwah Assembly constituency, for which bye-poll will be held on April 23, along with the Parliamentary election.
