Labour Day celebrated in Jammu with 'Run for Health and Safety of Workers'

JAMMU, May 1: The Labour Department Jammu today organized a 'Run for Health and Safety of Workers' to mark International Labour Day (May Day). The run was flagged off at 6:00 AM by Labour Commissioner J&K, Charandeep Singh here from Shram Bhawan, Railway Road.
The run followed a designated route via War Memorial, Railway Station, opposite Ladakh House, J&K Bank Zonal Office link lane, Divisional Commissioner Office Jammu, and culminated at the Office of the Labour Commissioner J&K. The event aimed to promote awareness about the importance of health, safety, and dignity of workers across sectors.
A large number of participants, including officials of the Labour Department from Jammu District, employees of J&K Employees State Insurance Society (JKESIS), Provident Fund Organisation, labourers and individuals from various walks of life joined the run in solidarity with the labour class. Notable officers who participated in the event included Deputy Labour Commissioner, Jammu Veenkashi Koul; Chief Accounts Officer, JKESIS Nimisha Anand; Assistant Labour Commissioner, Central Roopali Gandotra and Assistant Labour Commissioner Rupali Jasrotia, among other functionaries and staff.
The civil administration, J&K Police, Health Department, Municipal Corporation, Security personnel, and Traffic Police extended full cooperation, ensuring the run was conducted smoothly and successfully. The Labour Commissioner expressed gratitude to all departments for their unwavering support in making the event a success.
All participants were given certificates for their enthusiastic participation. In a special gesture, several labourers were presented with Certificates of Appreciation in recognition of their invaluable contribution to nation-building.
Adding to the spirit of the event, a 'Wall of Gratitude' was installed at Shram Bhawan, where participants penned down messages and signed in solidarity with the labour force, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the rights and welfare of workers.
Later in the day, a programme was also held at Industrial Estates, Gangyal, where Labour Day was celebrated in the presence of various stakeholders. The Association of Industries, Gangyal, actively participated in the event, with its President Varinder Jain and his team joining the celebrations. The focus remained on worker welfare, safety awareness, and collaborative efforts for improving industrial labour conditions. Officers of the Labour Department and representatives from industrial units engaged with workers, highlighting ongoing government schemes and initiatives for their benefit.
This meaningful initiative reinforced the message that the health, safety, and dignity of workers must remain a shared priority for all stakeholders in society.
