| Navratra Festival 2006 inaugurated | | |
KATRA, SEPTEMBER 23 - Minister for Tourism, PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir and Minister for Rural Development Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma today inaugurated Navratra Festival 2006, which is 11th festival at Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine amidst unprecedented festivities surcharged with spiritual atmosphere in which a large number of locals, school children and pilgrims from different parts of the country participated.
In this connection, holy Palanquin of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi followed by number of tableaus comprising cultural troups from various parts of the country was taken out from Asia Chowk, Katra amidst touching slogans of Jai Mata Di. A large number of people from all sections of society, devotees and yatris accompanied.
Speaking at the function organized jointly by Tourism and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Mr. Mohammad Dilwar Mir congratulated the people for holy Navratras. He also sanctioned Rs. 20 lakh for the development of Baba Dhansar Shrine which is a beautiful and cool picnic spot with naturally formed Shivling on which drop lits of water fall naturally all seasons of the year.
Earlier, the Minister for Rural Development, Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma thanked the Tourism Minister and said that funds for the development of Dhansar Shrine and Shiv Khori and other tourist and pilgrims places be provided so that pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi can avail facilities like this shrine at these places, already number of activities are going on at Shiv Khori and Dhansar by the government for pilgrims and tourism promotion.
The Director Tourism Mr. Ajay Khajuria gave a resume of various functions to be held during the festival.
Vote of thanks was presented by President Municipal Committee, Katra, Mr. Mulkh Raj Purohit.
Among others Secretary Tourism, Mr. Naeem Akhtar, District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr. O. P. Kalandria, SDM Reasi Mr. Ajeet Kumar Sahu, General Manager, JKTDC Mr. S. M. Sahai, Deputy chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Mr. R. B. Suri, Joint Director Information, Mr. S. K. Sharma, Additional SP Katra, Chief education Officer Udhampur and other senior officers and Navratra festival Committee members, Presidents of number of Associations of the town were present on the occasion. |
