Udhampur police cracks down on drugs, Rs 4.13 Cr seized, 52 held | | | Early Times Report
Udhampur, Apr 2: In a sustained and aggressive drive against drug trafficking, Udhampur Police has recorded major achievements in the first quarter of 2025. Between January and April, the district police registered 34 cases under the NDPS and PIT NDPS/PSA Acts, arresting 52 individuals involved in drug-related activities. As part of this crackdown, authorities seized narcotics valued at Rs 1.64 crore and confiscated 13 vehicles believed to be used for drug transportation. Additionally, four pharmacy shops were sealed for violations related to the sale of H1 category drugs. In a noteworthy move targeting the financial networks of drug peddlers, Udhampur Police froze 26 bank accounts containing a total of Rs 16,58,403. Furthermore, properties worth Rs 2.49 crore were attached under legal provisions, including residential buildings, commercial properties, and vehicles associated with narcotics and bovine smuggling cases. The District Police emphasized that these actions are part of a broader effort to disrupt both the operational and economic foundations of the drug trade. Reaffirming the commitment of law enforcement, a police spokesperson stated, “Udhampur Police remains steadfast in its mission to root out drug trafficking and build a safer, drug-free society. We are employing both preventive and punitive measures to tackle this menace at every level.” Authorities have also appealed to the public to cooperate in the fight against drugs by sharing information about any suspicious activities, with a guarantee of confidentiality for informants. |
