Reasi, May 2: In its ongoing crusade against drug abuse, Reasi Police has intensified its crackdown on narcotics smuggling, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the recovery of a total of 7.30 grams of heroin-like substance in two separate incidents under the jurisdiction of Police Station Katra. In the first case, a police patrolling team intercepted a suspect, Sunny Mehra, son of Parshotam Mehra, resident of Ward No. 10, Panthal, while he was on foot from Searly towards Katra. During frisking, the team recovered 3.70 grams of heroin-like substance from his possession. Consequently, an FIR (No. 125/2025) was registered under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Katra, and investigation was initiated to trace the broader network involved. In the second case, a special naka was laid by the police team at Balini, Katra. During routine checking, an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number JK14A-8417 was stopped. Upon frisking, 3.60 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from the driver, Arjun Singh, son of Panchal Singh, resident of Gunni Parthal, Tehsil Katra. A separate FIR (No. 123/2025) was registered at the same police station under the relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Both operations were executed under the leadership of SHO Katra, Inspector Khyatimaan Khajuria, and the close supervision of SDPO Katra, Dr. Bhishm Dubey (JKPS), and SP Katra, Shri Vipan Chandran (JKPS). Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, Shri Paramvir Singh (JKPS), while briefing the media, reaffirmed the district police’s commitment to a drug-free society. “Reasi Police is adopting a multi-pronged strategy to eliminate drug trafficking and illicit liquor trade. Alongside strict legal action, awareness programs are being actively conducted,” he said. He also appealed to the public to come forward with any information related to drug peddling. “The identity of the informer will be kept strictly confidential,” he assured.
