5/4/2025 9:56:03 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 4: In a major crackdown on forest-related crime, the Jammu Police on Sunday seized a truck allegedly involved in the illegal transportation of timber in the Gharota area.
Acting on credible information regarding unauthorized tree felling in the forest region near Khrota Showa village, a joint team comprising officials from Police Station Gharota and the Forest Department conducted a swift operation. During the search, a truck bearing registration number JK20-3287 was discovered abandoned by the roadside.
Upon inspection, the vehicle was found to be loaded with a substantial quantity of wooden logs and twigs, suspected to have been illicitly sourced from nearby forested areas. It is believed that the driver fled the scene upon noticing the approaching police team.
The truck and the illegally procured timber were immediately seized. A formal case has been registered at Police Station Gharota, and investigations are underway to trace the culprits involved.
Police officials confirmed that the seized materials will be handed over to the Forest Department following due legal procedures, and further action will be taken under the relevant sections of the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Act.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting forest resources and warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved in environmental crimes.
