| Academy honours 6 Pahari writers. | | State level Pahari conference begins at Poonch | | Early Times Report Poonch, Apr 21- Two- day State level Pahari Literary and Cultural Conference organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages began here today. More than 300 Pahari writers, poets, critics and intellectuals from all over the State, besides hundreds of local members of civil society of border town participated in the inaugural session presided over by a prominent Pahari intellectual Syed Anwar Hussan Shah. Zaffar Iqbal Khan Manhas, Secretary Academy, Dr.Rattan Lal Bailam, additional deputy Commissioner Poonch were also in the Presidium. In his presidential address Syed Anwar Hussain Shah stated that there is an urgent need to strengthen the Pahari movement in the State in a big way and our writers, poets and intellectual community could play a pivotal rule in binding of Pahari speaking people of the State into a one joint identity living in and around border and hilly belts of the State. He said that this event will prove as a mile stone in development of Pahari language and literature. Syed Anwar who is also Additional District Development Commissioner of Poonch said that the district Administration will extend all type of help to state Academy in its endeavour of promoting regional culture. Zaffar Iqbal Manhas while speaking on the occasion said that the main objective of organizing this conference was to bridge the gaps between Pahari writers and intellectuals. He said that this is the maiden effort of State Academy to provide an opportunity to more than 300 writers to sit together and think about the future of this centuries old language. On this occasion the Academy awarded six personalities for their life time contribution towards the Pahari language. Those awarded included Ghulam Mustafa Panchi, Khush Dev Maini, Rashid Qureshi, Raja Naza Bonyari, Nissar Rahi and Dr. Jahanger.
