Charak inaugurates 1-day training-cum-awareness programme

JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 23 - Minister for Roads and Buildings Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak inaugurated a one-day Training-cum-Awareness Programme at Rajinderpura in Purmandal block today.
This programme was organized by the Science and Technology Department (IREP) in collaboration with Power Development Department.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister apprised the people about the impending challenges of the world oil reserves and the efforts being made by the government to meet the targets of energy security through increasingly greater reliance on renewable energy like wind, solar, biogas and Hydel power. He stressed the need to encourage the steps being taken by the department of Science and Technology towards the promotion of Jatropha Curcas bio-fuel as an alternative to diesel in the state.
Mr. Charak said that this fledgling unit needs financial support for implementation of schemes being launched by the department. The schemes oriented subsidy such as gobar gas plant, energy saving devices and smokeless chulla, solar cookers, solar water pumps and most important raising of energy plantation (Jatropha). He said that there is huge land available for planting jatropha and ratanjoot in district Jammu which can change the economic scene of the state.
Major General (Retd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, who presided over the function, appreciated the programme and stressed for organizing more and more awareness programmes so that rural masses could be apprised about the adoption of renewable sources of energy and interest could be created for conservation of conventional energy. He discussed in detail about the benefits of Jatropha and Ratanjoot curcas and appealed the masses for plantation.
Project Director IREP, Science and Technology Mr. Tsering Angchuk exhorted the people to increase the use of Gobar Gas plants as the government provides 80 - 90 percent subsidy for the installation of these plants so that demand of LPG could be reduced and people could save the money spent on cylinders.
The Project Officer IREP Science and Technology, Jammu, Mr. N. D. Sharma counted the benefits of energy saving devices like CFLs against conventional devices like bulbs.
Miss Shalu Sharma of Government High School, Jakh and Miss Shalu Sharma of Government High School, Rajinderpura bagged Ist position, Miss Rempu Sharma bagged 2nd while 3rd position was secured by Miss Vandhana Devi.
Later, the Minister distributed prizes among the children who bagged Ist, 2nd and 3rd positions respectively.
