| After 7 weeks lull, 40 first-timers cross over to Pak | | | Early Times Report Srinagar: While only twelve first-timers made it to Pakistan administered Kashmir, PaK on last seven occasions, as many as forty citizens from Jammu boarded the weekly Poonch-Rawlakote bus service via Chakan-da-Bagh crossing point along the line of control in Jammu region, official sources told PBI on Tuesday. They said that a total of 103 persons crossed sides at the crossing point in Poonch district.
Sources said 76 persons crossed over to Pak including 40 fresh passengers and 36 Pak residents, who returned to their homes after staying with their relatives, first time after partition of India and Pakistan in 1947.
Similarly, sources said, 27 persons arrived in Poonch from Pak which includes 22 nationals of Pak and five returnees, who had gone to other side of Line of Control to meet their relatives after nearly six decades.
It was on March 2 and 9 that not even a single citizen from Jammu could board the weekly while on March 16, only two civilians left for PaK. The number was five on March 23 and two on March 30. On April 6, only three civilians left for PaK while the number again came down to zero on April 13.
While only 12 first-timers travelled from Jammu to Pak in seven weeks, about 170 fresh guests from Pak travelled to this side to meet their divided family members and relatives.
Nearly six hundred, 596 persons, including 472 via Chakan-Da-Bagh and remaining 124 via Aman Setu, crossed the LoC in March while only 419 made it in February this year.
Matloob Khan, GM, DIC was representing officials on this side at Chakan-Da-Bagh while Sadiq Malik, ACR Hajeera and Khalid Bukhari, Trade Facilitation Officer, Hajeera were present from PaK side.
