GCW Udhampur Hosts Symposium on Promoting Indian Classical Music

UDHAMPUR, May 15, 2025: To create awareness among the students, the Department of Music under the aegis of Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur organized a Symposium on the topic "Methods to be adopted for promoting Indian Classical Music" at the college campus here today.
The programme was organized under the supervision of Dr. Nalini\ Pathania, Principal, Government College for Women, Udhampur.
The Principal of the college was the chief guest on this occasion. In her keynote address, the chief guest appreciated the efforts of the department for organising such an informative programme and also motivated the students with her motivational speech.
Earlier, the programme began with a formal welcome address by Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, HOD Music. She also threw light on the significance and importance of Music.
About 14 students participated in the symposium competition, in which Navisha, Ramzan, Siya, Tanya, Khushi, Manisha, Anshika, Chahat, Sonam, Manyata, Nitika, Sheetal, Manika and Anjali expressed their views on the topic.
The participants enlightened the audience about the methods which can be used to promote Indian Classical Music, particularly in the remote areas. They also highlighted the main components of Indian classical Music.
The programme was coordinated by Assistant Professor of Music Mr. Yash\ Kumar and  Assistant Professor of Music , Dr. Sanjay Kumar.
The competition was judged by a panel of three experts consisting of Ms. Anita Sharma, Lecturer Music, Ms. Surinder Kaur Raina Lecturer Music and Ms. Karuna Majotra Lecturer Music.
The judges evaluated the participants on the basis of their content, presentation and overall impression. Manyata Kotwal Semester 2 secured the first position, Navisha Semester 2 secured the second position and Kushi Sharma Semester 2 secured the third position. Apart from this, Anisha and Ramzan Akhtar of Semester 2 were also given consolation prizes.
Among others, Ms. Manisha Kumari lecturer Music, other faculties and a large number of students were also present on the occasion.
