| Scintillating performance by military band at Udhampur garrison | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 22- The Pipes and Drums military band of the Corps of Signals gave a scintillating performance at Udhampur garrison in front of a jam packed audience. Shanta Dhawan wife of Major General SK Dhawan, Chief Signal Officer, Northern Command was the Chief Guest for the function. The band marched to martial tunes, and also played out Indian folk tunes. Finally, the drummers gave a dazzling performance with their drums. The Pipes and Drums band of the Corps of Signals was created from a nucleus of Right Buglers of Sappers and Miners who formed part of the original complement of personnel of 31st, 33rd and 34th Division Signal Company. Some of those could also play the Pipes and were used as pipers during 1921-26. No establishment for the band as such existed at that time. Colonel EFW Barker, Commandant Signals Training Centre (India) pursued the raising of Corps of Signals pipes Band in mid 20’s and it was raised in early 1927. The band is a source of pride for Corps of Signals personnel. The drummers have participated in Army Day Parade and Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. The show at Udhampur was organized at Northern Command Signal Regiment.
