GDC Ganderbal hosts essay writing competition on fostering moral values

Ganderbal, May 17: Government Degree College, Ganderbal organized a thought-provoking essay writing competition on the theme “The Decline of Moral Values in Contemporary Society: Causes, Consequences, and Solutions” on Saturday. The competition, jointly organized by the departments of Urdu, Islamic Studies, English, and Functional English, aimed at enhancing writing skills and raising awareness about the critical importance of moral values in modern society.
The event, held at the college conference hall, saw enthusiastic participation from students across all semesters. Professors and faculty members from various departments gathered to support the event. Prof. Fouzia Fatima, the Principal of the college, graced the event as the patron, while a distinguished three-member jury panel evaluated the essays in English and Urdu categories.
In the English category, the jury consisted of Dr. Marifat Akhter (Head of the Department of English), Dr. Tauseef Ahmad Parray (Head of the Department of Islamic Studies), and Prof. Syed Mehvish (Assistant Professor, English). For the Urdu category, Dr. Jamsheeda Akhter (Head of the Department of Urdu), Prof. Nusrat Nabi (Assistant Professor, Urdu), and Dr. Gh. Mustafa (Faculty Member, Urdu) formed the evaluation panel. The essays were assessed on the basis of relevance, content, and language proficiency.
The competition culminated in an inspiring valedictory session moderated by Dr. Shazia Qadri (Assistant Professor, English), who also acknowledged the contributions of the organizing faculty. Dr. Zeeshan Khushboo (Head of the Department of Functional English) delivered the vote of thanks.
Syeda Mohddisa (4th Semester), Momina Majid (6th Semester), and Qurat-ul-Ain (6th Semester) emerged as the top three winners, securing the first, second, and third positions, respectively. Additionally, consolation prizes were awarded to Seerat Riyaz (6th Semester), Mehvish (2nd Semester), and Nusrat Hassan (6th Semester) for their outstanding contributions.
The event concluded with the distribution of certificates of appreciation to the position holders, celebrating their achievements and intellectual contribution. The competition not only provided a platform for students to express their creative ideas but also fostered intellectual discourse on the importance of preserving moral values in today’s society.
The success of the event highlights the college’s commitment to nurturing student creativity, enhancing academic skills, and encouraging critical thinking on pressing societal issues.
