Udhampur, May 18: In a determined crackdown against illegal bovine smuggling, Udhampur Police successfully rescued 16 bovines in two separate incidents and arrested one individual. The operations were carried out under the jurisdiction of Police Station Udhampur. In the first incident, a police team intercepted a truck (JK20B-1006) at Jakhani on the National Highway (NHW). Upon inspection, 10 bovines were found tied in a cruel manner and being transported without valid permission. While the animals were safely rescued, the driver managed to flee the scene. A case has been registered under FIR No. 175/2025 U/S 223(a) BNS and 11 PCA Act at PS Udhampur. In a separate incident, a Tata Mobile vehicle (JK14K-6279) was stopped at Jakhani Naka Point on the NHW. Six bovines were found inside the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Abdul, son of Qasim, resident of Mansar Charawa, Majalta, was arrested on the spot. All bovines were rescued. An FIR No. 176/2025 U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been lodged in connection with the case. Both vehicles used in the smuggling attempts were seized, and further investigations are currently underway. The Udhampur Police reiterated their commitment to preventing animal cruelty and curbing bovine smuggling in the region, urging the public to cooperate and report any such suspicious activities.
