Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 19: The Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association, Jammu (JKHCBAJ), paid heartfelt tribute and offered Shardanjali to Senior Advocate P.S. Dutta, former President of the JKHCBAJ, who passed away on May 17, 2025.
A solemn Shardanjali Samroh was held today at the High Court Complex, presided over by Sh. K. Nirmal Kotwal, President JKHCBAJ, to mourn the loss of the highly respected legal luminary. As a mark of respect, members of the Bar abstained from work across all courts, including the Hon'ble High Court, Subordinate Courts, Tribunals, and Revenue Courts.
During the Samroh, members of the legal fraternity-both senior and junior-gathered in large numbers to remember and honor Dutta's remarkable contributions to the Bar and the legal profession. He was hailed as a stalwart advocate, a guiding light, and a mentor whose legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
President K. Nirmal Kotwal, in his address, described Dutta as "a mentor par excellence," noting that he played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many young lawyers. Noted environmentalist M.C. Mehta, also hailing from Surankote, was among those privileged to receive guidance from Dutta in his formative years. His tireless dedication to mentoring junior lawyers and shaping the future of the Bar was widely acknowledged.
Several senior advocates, including D.K. Khajuria, M.K. Bhardwaj, Sunil Sethi (all former Presidents of JKHCBAJ), Sr. Adv. U.K. Jalali, Sr. Adv. Mohd. Aslam Goni, V.B. Gupta, K.K. Kundan, Radha Sharma, Deepika Mahajan, S.S. Ahmed, C.S. Gupta, and M.R. Qureshi, spoke during the Shardanjali Samroh, sharing heartfelt memories and paying homage to Dutta's enduring legacy.
The condolence meeting concluded with a two-minute silence observed by all attendees, praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul and for strength to be granted to the bereaved family during this hour of grief.
Office bearers of JKHCBAJ, including Baldev Singh (Vice President), Pradeep Majotra (General Secretary), Anshu Mahajan (Joint Secretary), and Rahul Aggarwal (Treasurer), were present and joined in offering prayers and condolences.
P.S. Dutta will be remembered not only as a brilliant legal mind but as a pillar of wisdom, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice.
