| Kapur cautions against complacency in spreading AIDS awareness | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 22- Chief Secretary S. S. Kapur today called for sustained AIDS awareness campaign with focus on reaching out to more vulnerable sections like youth to contain spread of the dreaded disease.
Kapur said this after inaugurating a community care centre for AIDS patients, established by B.N Charitable Society, in collaboration with State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (SACS), here at Talab-Tilloo today.
Commissioner/Secretary, Health, Atal Dulloo, Director Health Services, Jammu, Jasbir Singh, Principal, GMC, Jammu, Dr. Rajinder Singh, Project Director, SACS, Dr. M. A. Wani, Administrator, Associated Hospitals, Dr. Rakesh Khajuria and President, B. N. Charitable Society, Kunil Bhalla were present on the occasion.
Kapur stressed on adopting a vigilant and proactive approach to prevent AIDS infection in the State. For the purpose, he suggested synergized efforts of government, media and social and religious organizations. He said low prevalence of AIDS in J&K demands more effective and responsive role by one and all, cautioning against complacency.
Speaking on the occasion, Dulloo also called for effective and substantial response to maintain low prevalence AIDS rate in the State. He said SACS is engaged in spreading wholesome awareness campaign through print, electronic and folk media besides roping in religious leaders under National AIDS Control Program. He said the establishment of community care centre is a collaborative effort of B. N. Charitable Society and Government, adding its success will pave the way for more such initiatives in the State.
The Project Director, SACS, described the establishment of the centre as a model to forge public-private partnership in health sector. He said the community care centre is fully equipped for extending treatment, counseling and succor to the AIDS infected.
He hoped the centre will prove a model for providing treatment facilities to the AIDS patients. He said the centre will also serve as a nodal point to the AIDS patients across the country in addressing their issues, adding the centre will set a new trend in wiping out the stigma and discrimination associated with the disease.
Earlier, the Chief Secretary took a round of the two-storey complex and inspected reception, counseling, laboratory, examination units and in-patient wards available at the centre.
