Are your gifts safe with the courier

JAMMU, Apr 22: Further we move from our dear ones the more we crave for them and it has become a custom to send them letters and mementos of love and now days for this the Indian Postal Service does not seem to be much preferred one and the dependency seems to be increasing on the private couriers service providers but is your invaluable token of love really safe with the courier service provider?
As the usage of private courier services for the purpose of sending gifts and other articles increases the cases of articles being stolen during the transit has also increased and surprisingly such incidents are more frequent in case of parcels sent by air. But the important point is what the liability of the courier agencies is if your parcel is lost and how much will be reimbursed to you?
As such according to the courier agencies the liability of the courier agency varies with the policy of the agencies and in a general case if your parcel is lost than despite the fact how costly it is you may be able to recover only a sum of Rs. 100 to Rs. 500 from the courier agency. As such it is necessary for the courier agency to ascertain the cost of the item to be transmitted and take an undertaking from the assignor for that but in usual practice it is found that no such undertaking is taken. Some of the courier agents do not even bother to confirm that what is there in the parcel and if in this case the parcel or the article inside it is lost you may get something between Rs 100 to 500 from the courier agency as reimbursement of the loss. Recently a resident of Shakti Nagar Jammu suffered this reality when he received a parcel from Delhi through a national courier agency. The parcel was torn from one side and was taped by a cellophane tape carrying the logo of the courier agency and few of the articles were missing from the parcel. As the parcel was booked in Delhi it has been almost four months and the aggrieved person has not even been paid a single rupee as reimbursed for the loss by the courier agency till now. As such the safest mode to send a costly item by courier is to get it insured and mostly you are charged around 2% to 4% of the cost of the item as insurance charges but this method is rarely used by general public as many of them are not even aware of it. So next time you send a costly item in your parcel make it sure that it is properly packed and you give it in writing to the courier agent the actual cost of the item and further if you wish get it insured so that you feelings reach your loved ones as you have sent them.
