GCW Bhagwati Nagar hosts Awareness Lecture | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 22: The Government College for Women (GCW), Bhagwati Nagar organized an informative awareness lecture on Civil Defence to educate students and staff on the importance of disaster preparedness and effective emergency response. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Naveen Anand, Principal of the college. The awareness programme aimed to sensitize participants about the role of Civil Defence in managing both natural and man-made disasters, and to promote a culture of safety and civic responsibility among youth. The keynote address was delivered by Prof. Anju Bala, Head of the Department of English. She elaborated on the structure, responsibilities, and functioning of Civil Defence organizations. Her lecture covered essential topics such as disaster management strategies, emergency response protocols, and basic first-aid techniques. Prof. Bala also encouraged students to volunteer for Civil Defence initiatives and participate in community safety programmes. The event witnessed active participation from faculty members, NSS volunteers, and students, who showed great enthusiasm and engaged with the speaker during an interactive Q&A session. Delivering the vote of thanks, Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Convenor of IQAC, emphasized the need for greater awareness of Civil Defence among the youth, especially in light of rising environmental and man-made risks. She also highlighted the crucial role of educational institutions in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to respond to unforeseen challenges. The entire programme was successfully coordinated by Dr. Pavanjeet Bali, Nodal Officer of the Red Ribbon Club, whose efforts ensured smooth organization and impactful execution of the event.
