IETE Celebrates Telecom & Information Society Day

JAMMU, May 22: Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) today at Govt. Polytechnic for Women Jammu. This day is celebrated to commemorate the founding of the International Telecommunication Union way back in 1865.
Welcoming all the participants, Dr. Vijay Sharma, Chairman IETE Jammu Centre, elaborated on the importance of this day. He said that electronics field is progressing very fast and that's why students are given latest inputs to keep them abreast with the latest technologies. Around 100 students participated in this celebration.
Dr. Radhika Khanna, General Secretary IETE read out the message received for Shri Sunil, National President IETE.
Maj Gen SK Sharma, AVSM (Retd), Senior Fellow of IETE dwell on this year's theme of the WTISD which is 'Gender Equality in Digital Transformation'. He advocated promotion of skill-based education especially among women and the elderly people and making it part of their day to day life.
Er. Neelanjana Manwati, Principal, Govt. Polytechnic for Women was the Chief Guest for the function. She explained various steps being taken by their Polytechnic to raise the skill level of the students.
Prof. Pawanesh Abrol, FIETE, an experienced Professor at Jammu University listed out all the computer technologies which are going to affect life of the common citizens and urged the students to pick up at least a few of these.
Prof. Praveen Lehana, FIETE, correlated the rays emitted by sun with the variety of energies desired by human body. Linking concepts of Hindu mythology with the field of electronics is a new field of study being undertaken these days.
Mr. Joy Ganjoo. FIET and the former Chairman IETE gave details of his interaction with the Polytechnic students even when he comes at part of MSME delegations.
Prof. Rakesh Vaid, FIETE and an expert in electronics stressed the need for the students understand the basics of electronics before going in for the coding of the microchips.
Er. Naresh Gupta, HoD E&C Dept. thanked all the eminent speakers for their valuable insights on the topic and sharing their experiences in motivating the students for remaining in touch with the latest trends in telecom technologies.
The program was compered by Er. Ankit Gupta, Demonstrator ECE and vote of thanks by Er. Tinny Sawhney, Treasurer IETE Local Centre.
