Kargil senior citizens call on Governor

Srinagar, Sept 23 A group of 25 senior citizens of district Kargil today called on the Governor, Lt Gen (Retd) S.K. Sinha at Raj Bahavan. The senior citizens reached Srinagar after their return from 16-day tour of various places of the country. The tour for the senior citizens of the hill district was arranged by 8 Mountain Division under Sadhabhavana Excursion.
During the tour the group visited Jammu, Amritsar, New Delhi, Jalianwala Bagh, Wagah border, Lucknow, Jaipur and Ajmeer Sharief.
They also called on President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in New Delhi and Governor of UP and Lucknow.
Welcoming the senior citizens group, Governor recalled his old days when he was on duty in Kargil about 60 years back. He said he is fully aware of the problems of the people of this area. Mr. Sinha said union Government is trying for opening of the Kargil-Askardu road for which parleys are in progress with neighboring country Pakistan.
Mr. Sinha said that people of different faiths and religions are living peacefully in India, which is largest democratic country in the world.
Appreciating the efforts of state government for undertaking massive development works in all the three regions of the state, Governor said that people should also extend their cooperation to the government to complete these in a time bound manner.
He also lauded the role of Army for providing all possible help to the people besides guarding the borders. He said earthquake victims have highly appreciated Army for rescue and relief it provided them at the time of distress.
The senior citizens group also putforth various demands to the Governor which include setting up of degree college , sub-division status for Sanjak-Chiktan and air service for Kargil besides, nine hospitals for various areas of the district,
The Governor assured them of all possible help in this behalf. Regarding air service, he said he would take up the matter with Air Force authorities for enhancing the air frequencies till regular air service is launched.
Earlier, the group presented a gift pack to the Governor.
