Promising Step

The recent announcement by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, promising government jobs to the next of kin of those who lost their lives in Pakistani shelling, marks a significant and compassionate gesture towards justice and rehabilitation.
In regions that were hit by Pakistan aggression recently, such measures not only acknowledge the pain and loss of affected families but also serve as a reassurance of the government’s unwavering commitment to their welfare.
Lieutenant Governor Sinha’s decision to offer government employment to the closest kin of the victims is a significant step in acknowledging this suffering and offering tangible support.
More importantly, the LG’s assurance that all affected families will be properly rehabilitated reflects a crucial policy shift towards long-term support, rather than temporary relief.
The government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, has consistently maintained that the rehabilitation of border residents is a top priority. This includes not only financial compensation and employment but also sustained efforts to improve the quality of life and security in border villages.
Enhanced border infrastructure is a vital part of this strategy. Over the past few years, there has been a visible push to construct bunkers, improve road connectivity, and create safer housing options in vulnerable areas. These measures have helped reduce casualties and ensure quicker evacuations during escalations.
Additionally, investment in healthcare, education, and livelihood opportunities for border dwellers demonstrates the government’s commitment to holistic development.
Offering a government job is not just an act of compensation—it is an act of empowerment. It provides the family with a stable source of income, a sense of inclusion in the state’s development process, and the reassurance that their loved one’s sacrifice has not gone unnoticed.
The political and administrative leadership at the Centre and in J&K have rightly recognized that security alone is not enough. Socio-economic development, emotional support, and dignified rehabilitation are equally crucial in addressing the deep-rooted challenges of border areas. This multi-dimensional approach is essential to transform these regions from zones of fear into zones of opportunity.
The administration’s latest move sends a strong message—not just to our adversaries, but to our own citizens—that every life matters, every family will be cared for, and no sacrifice will go in vain.
