Govt GLDM Degree College, successfully culminated VermiComposting project | | | Early Times Report HIRANAGAR, May 23: Students of Eco-Club and Department of Environmental Sciences of Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar prepared vermicompost under the training and guidance provided by Krishi VIgyan Kendra Kathua. Earlier, few months ago, a five- days training was organized in collaboration with KVK Kathua in the college, in which students were given training on Vermicomposting. Also, a vermibed was set up in the college Campus. The students took care of it at regular intervals. As the compost is now ready for use, the students harvested the vermicompost with the aid of officials from KVK. The compost was sieved, dried and packed. The prepared vermicompost was then used in college campus and also distributed among interested students. The whole training was organized under the able leadership of Principal of the college, Dr. Pragaya Khanna. She inspired the students to become self reliant. She thanked officials from Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Dr. Vishal Mahajan, Dr. Anamika Jamwal, Mr. Amit and Mr. Sushant Sharma for all the resources, training and support which they offered to the college for students. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Neeru Sharma, Convener ECO-CLub and Head Department of Environmental Sciences. She said the project is of great significance to students as they get skilled in vermicomposting which is important for contemporary practices like organic farming. Eco-Club Committee members of the college, Prof. Namrarta, Prof. Ganga, Prof. Balwinder and Prof Tammana also wholeheartedly encouraged and support the students in their endeavour. |
