| Earth Day celebrated at Leh | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Leh, Apr 23: The Earth Day was celebrated at Kendriya Vidyalaya here today and was organized by the State Pollution Control Board. The Deputy Commissioner, Ajeet Kumar Sahu was the chief guest on the occasion while as the Conservator of Forest and Regional Wildlife Warden, Ladakh, Jigmet Takpa was the guest of honour on the occasion. The SSP, Leh SR Samuel, ES Gergan, CMO, Dr. Dolma Tsering, Chief Education Officer, Abdul Rahuf, officers of various departments, principal, teachers and students of Kendriya Vidyalaya and other educational institutions who were participated in Elocution Competition were present in the Earth Day function. Sahu in his address said that every thing in this world, be it the plants, animals or physical structures have their rights and place on the earth. As such, we as responsible citizens of a civilized society should realize and respect their rights and work for their protection in order to save the earth and its eco-system. He said that the concept of protection of nature was already in our traditions and customs, now the need of the hour was to bring these perceptions into practice in our daily life. Sahu stressed the importance of 4-Re’s perception i.e. Reduce, Re-use, Re-cycle and Re-thing so that contemplation of shielding and caring for the earth would come up from all frontage. Jigmet Takpa in his address sensitized the threats of climate change and its effect for un-stable atmosphere on the earth. He informed the audience that it took more then several million years in the formation of the Earth. In the past, the major natural catastrophes were responsible for wiping out major species from this earth, he said adding that the next major catastrophe could be because of the deeds of human being. He strongly emphasized to have the human beings to adapt into change of climate and the same time he suggested various measures to protect the earth.
